Buc-ee’s in Tri-Lakes would have a major impact on the night sky. Neighbors of the Johnstown, CO Buc-ees have reported that the light pollution is affecting areas at least 6 miles from the station and are warning that Buc-ee’s has ruined their starry skies!
Light pollution affects animals and ecosystems and would have an enormous impact to the Douglas County wildlife sanctuary, located next to the proposed Buc-ee’s location off of County Line and the $22 million Greenland wildlife overpass (in development), one of the continents largest wildlife overpasses!
Light pollution disrupts natural behaviors and sleep patterns (including humans), harms wildlife navigation and breeding, and interferes with plant growth and development.
See the map of how light pollution is expected to affect this area.
Great thanks to a member of the Tri-Lakes community for creating the map image above.
