  • Fact: Buc-ee's will consume over 10 million gallons of our precious water per year. 80-90% of this will be consumed by non Tri-lakes citizens. Source: Buc-ees

  • "Just 10 gallons of petroleum has the potential to contaminate up to 12 million gallons of water. Buc-ee’s will store hundreds of thousands of gallons of petroleum and hazardous chemicals underground, which risk soaking into soil and drinking water sources."

  • "Studies show emissions from the concentration of just 200 running vehicles can create harmful conditions for breathing. On average, 8,000-15,000 cars are estimated daily making it a pollution hot spot."

  • Fact: A typical Buc-ee's is 2.5 times larger than a Flying J truck stop. A Buc-ees is 65,000-75,000sq feet, compared to 25,000sq feet.

  • Fact: The proposed Buc-ee's on County line road & I-25 will contain more fuel pumps than all of the gas stations in Monument combined.

  • Buc-ees will have a negative effect on small and large local businesses. Johnson's Corner Restaurant, 3 miles away from Johnstown Buc-ee's, went out of business after 80 years, 10 months after Johnstown Buc-ee's opened.

  • "A Buc-ee's would be a major realignment to our small community which is not needed or wanted. The impact to our community is too great for this to happen. I'm two miles outside Palmer Lake and drive County Line every day and this will be a nightmare to everyone."

  • "Buc-ees opened in our western St. Augustine, FL area. The WGV is a beautiful area. While other stores have opened near Buc-ees, they are more for locals. Buc-ees brings so much traffic to our World Golf Village area, with 103 gas pumps that we must look for alternate routes on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. All we can see in that area now is a giant yellow beaver sign in the sky."

  • Buc-ee’s will bring 8,000 - 20,000 more cars per day, every day. (Source: Buc-ee's) This is the same number of cars that the Larkspur Renaissance Festival brings, but it will be every day!

  • Buc-ee’s currently has worse employee satisfaction rates than McDonald’s and Walmart and is known for incredibly high employee turn-over due to poor labor practices.

  • Fact: Palmer Lake’s master plan discourages big box stores and franchises, and prioritizes dark skies, open space, and working with other local governments including the Town of Monument and Douglas County.

  • "You have a business model that isn't for the local people. The money that's coming in is coming from people who are traveling through I-25. Naturally, Buc-ee's will be less concerned about the well-being of the local ecosystem."
